Being a kid of the 80s and 90s, it is fascinating to watch my son consume technology and media these days. Just as it was for my parents watching me, I am sure.
He is a pretty tech-savvy kid. He can work his way around an iPad® better than some adults I know. He knows Netflix, Amazon Video and, of course, his favorite – YouTube. He will often touch all laptops assuming that EVERYTHING is a touchscreen like this tablet. He downloads apps and plays games on a daily basis. He has even learned that he can now search for all his favorite things by just tapping on the microphone and speaking what he wants. Alternatively, just asking his new friend (Amazon) Alexa to play a song, he wants to hear and she plays it immediately.
Recently while watching “old school television,” a commercial came on and he looked at me with confusion – “Can you skip this, Momma?” is what he asked. My son is only 6 years old. He is Gen Z – the youngest generation in America. With Millennials being such a hard audience to speak to, how will we be able to reach the Gen Z generation?
